DRAFT WITH SUGGESTIONS 2010

1. sv-v1obIDv2su-v1tr-v1suAg_v1obAff-v2intr-v2obAff-CAUSERESULT (Resultative construction-Switch reference)

sv-v1obIDv2su => sv-v1obIDv2su

v2-int => v2tr (here v2 is unaccusative and intransitive) In my analysis in my dissertation it inherits from the type intrans-verb-lxm

LH: So then we should say 'v2intr'... OO: OK I will effect the correction v1tr-v1suAg_v1obAff-v2tr-v2obAff => v1tr-v1suAg_v1obAff-v2intr-v2obAff

"v1obIDv2su" is for area 2.correction done

2. svSuObIDALLsuAgobAff-v1tr-v2tr-EVENTSEQ (Consequential construction (token subject and object sharing)) svsuObIDsuAgobAff => svSuObIDALLsuAgobAff

CAP S after 'sv', and 'IDALL' instead of 'ID', in this connection (area 1 of mv). Please apply these two changes in all examples relevant. OK

3. svSuObIDALLsuAg-v1tr-v1obPrcpt-v2tr-v2obAff-EVENTOVERLAP (Purpose construction (token subject and object sharing))

svsuObIDsuAgob => svSuObIDALLsuAg. Here, the verbs in series share object tokens but with different thematic roles. I suggest that we include this information in area 2 v1tr-v2tr = v1tr-v1obPrcpt-v2tr-v2obAff. Here I have used the tag Prcpt to indicate the perceived entity as opposed to the tag Presit that indicates a perceived situation

LH: I agree. Note, though, that IDALL refers to reference identity only, so we can use 'IDALL' also in these cases (3 and 4). OO: OK correction effected for examples 3 and 4. IDALL included

4. mvcSuIDALL-v1tr-v1suAg_v1obAff-v2tr-v2suAgsens_v2obAff- CAUSERESULT (Negative resultatives(token subject sharing and different objects))

'I have not used the tag IDALL here in area 1 because the shared NP subject do not have the same theta role as indicated in area 2.'

Should be 'sv'.Negative resultatives are not svs calling them that may be misleading. I suggest we use the tag mvc -multi verb constructions- for these construction types. Area 1 nrcsuID = mvcsuID

Sure this is CAUSE_RESULT? during our discussion we considered labeling the situation type as an EventSEQ but the event depicted by v1 brings about the resultant state in v2 and tests I applied to this construction type in my thesis show that there is a causation relation linking v1 and v2.

5. ccSuIDALLsuAg-v1tr-v1obAff-v2tr-v2obThincrem-EVENTSEQ (Covert Co-ordination (covert reference subject sharing and overt reference object sharing)) ccsuIDsuAg = ccSuIDALLsuAg

6. ccSuIDALLsuAg-v1tr-v1obAff-v2tr-v2obAff- EVENTSEQ (Covert Co-ordination (covert reference subject sharing and different objects)) ccsuIDsuAg = ccSuIDALLsuAg.

7.mvcSuIDALLsuAg-v2tr-v2obThincrem-EVENTOVERLAP (Comitative construction (covert reference subject sharing)) 'svsuIDsuAg = mvcSuIDALLsuAg. The construction type is not an svc. I have therefor used the tag mvc.'

8. svSuIDALLsuAg-v1tr-v1obPrcpt-v2tr-v2obAff-EVENTOVERLAP (Purpose construction (token subject and object sharing))

svSuObIDALLsuAgobAff = svSuIDALLsuAg

v1tr-v2tr = v1tr-v1obPrcpt-v2tr-v2obAff

9. sv-v1obIDv2su-v1tr-v1suAg-v1obAff-v2int-v2obAff-CAUSERESULT (Resultative construction (switch reference))

v2-int => v2tr see comment for example 1 above.

10. svSuIDALLsuAg- v1tr-v1obTh-v2tr-v2obAffincrem-EVENTSEQ (Consequential construction (token subject and object sharing))

13. v-intr-suAg-ACHVMNT-MOTION_DIRECTED ( V+modifier construction (V2 is reanalyzed as adverb) movement is away from the speaker)

14. mvcSuIDALLsuAg-v1tr-v1obTh-v2tr-v2obAff-EVENTINSTR (V+infinitival complement construction ( covert reference subject sharing)) 'icsuIDsuAg = mvcSuIDALLsuAg. Do we label the situation type as EVENTINSTR following the convention we have adopted for the other situation types?' EVENTINSTR is probably the best, yes OO: correction effected EVENT_INSTR = EVENTINSTR

v1obInstr => v1obTh (relative to v1, it is a theme)

15. svSuObIDALLsuAgobAff- v1tr-v2tr-EVENTSEQ (Consecutive construction (token subject and object sharing))

16. mvcSuIDALLsuAg-v2tr-v2obThincrem-EVENTCOMIT (V+infinitival complement construction- Instrumental ( covert reference subject sharing)

icsuIDsuAg = mvcSuIDALLsuAg.
